In the cold open, Jim says an extended Spanish greeting to Michael. The actor who plays Jim, John Krasinski, speaks fluent Spanish and taught night classes to people who wanted to learn Spanish when he first moved to LA and started to pursue an acting career. The teaching helped supplement his income before his acting career took off, as he revealed on the old George Lopez show.

Michael references the film Rudy (1993) as he convinces himself to keep hitting on Donna, played by Amy Pietz. Amy Pietz has a small role as 'Melinda' in Rudy.

In the cold open, Jim replies to Michael (who's trying to learn Spanish) and says "Buenos dias, Miguel. Como estas? Bien? Claro que si! Yo estoy fantastico. Que pasa?" What he is saying translates to "Good morning, Michael. How are you? Well? Yes, of course! I am fantastic. What's happening?"

Michael mentions that Donna is the manager of a Sid and Dexter's; this is a play on the name of the Dave and Buster's restaurant and entertainment chain.

When did you become interested in acting/performing?

I was an extremely introverted child who played alone by myself, sang songs, drew pictures, and watched a great deal of Sesame Street, Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, and Captain Kangaroo.  I began dancing at a very young age, and for many years dreamt of being a ballerina.  I’d practice for hours in my basement in Wisconsin, and wanted desperately to graduate
