  • It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Allison Powell of Lacombe, Alberta on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the age of 89 years. He passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre with family by his side.

    Harry was born in Strome, Alberta on March 1, 1933. He grew up on the south side of Edmonton, quitting school at Grade 8 to go work pipelines with his brother Duncan and his uncle Chester. Harry worked his entire career as a pipeliner and he loved it.

    Harry moved with his family from Edmonton to Lacombe, and then to the farm outside of Lacombe in 1970, where he continued to pipeline but also operated a small farm. He raised purebred Simmental cows, and won Reserve Grand Champion at Northlands Stock Show and Sale. In later years Harry switched to Charolais cattle.

    Harry is survived by his daughters Melinda (Steve) McPherson, Jacqueline Powell, Lori Powell, Arlene Soutar, and Kathy (Gord) Walker; as well as his grandchildren Allison (Devan) Krahn and their family Duncan, and Anwen; Megan (Garth) Meehan and their family Everett, Cal, Audrey, and Matilda; Wes (Kendra) Walker; Madison Walker (Cody Kaiser) and their family Keeva, and Brixton; Austin (Julie) Soutar and their son Sawyer; Erinn McPherson (Jordie Laidlaw); and Morgan McPherson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Harry was predeceased by his parents Robert and Marion, his wife Helen, brother Duncan, sister Joyce, partner Lisette, son-in-law Danny, and sister-in-law Doris.

    A Memorial Service in Celebration of Harry’s Life was held in the Upper Hall of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 79, 5138 – 49 Street, Lacombe on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Interment took place in the Lacombe Fairview Cemetery at a later date. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Harry’s memory may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice. Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area
