Sri Lankan actor, singer, model (born 1983)

Saranga Disasekara (Sinhala: සාරංග දිසාසේකර) (born 31 January 1983) is a Sri Lankan actor, singer, model and a host by profession. Saranga was awarded the most popular television actor in Sri Lanka award at Sumathi Awards, Raigam Tele'es and SLIM-Nielsen Peoples Awards several times. Currently, he is hosting reality programme Hiru Star.

Early life

Saranga Disasekara was born on 31 January 1983 in Kalubowila, Sri Lanka, to singer Narada Disasekara, and radio host and actress Tileka Ranasinghe. He completed school life at Thurstan College, Colombo and graduated from Northumbria University, Newcastle. Saranga's uncle Douglas Ranasinghe is also a popular artist in Sri Lanka.

After completing computer science for his higher studies, he entered commercials and minor cinema acting.

Career

At the age of 10, Saranga acted in the short film Marana Samapthiya. Then he was involved with many television commercials and radio castings.

His debut film in a major role was Nil Diya Yahana opposite Chathurika Peiris, which was directed by Dayaratne Ratagedara. However, his maiden cinema acting came through the 2003 film Irasma in a minor role.

He has acted in many popular teledramas in all genre from drama, tragedy, thriller and comedy. His most notable acting came through plays like Sulanga Matha Mohothak, Bonda Meedum,Kalu Kurulla, Wassane Premaya,Haara Kotiya, Kotipathiyo and Wes.

He has acted three stage dramas, Silgath Kokku, Mee Harak and Pirimiyekgen Paminillak.

Saranga Lalinada Disasekara is an actor, producer and media personality in Sri Lanka. He was born on January 31st 1983, at Kalubowila, Sri Lanka. He studied at the Thurstan College Colombo and the Northumbria University, Newcastle, England.His Father, Narada Disasekara, was a Sri Lankan singer, and his mother, Tileka Ranasinghe, was a well-known radio host and an actress in Sri Lanka. His maternal uncle, Dauglas Ranasinghe, is also an actor in Sri Lanka.Saranga is married to Dinakshie Priyasad, actress and a social media inflencer. Their daughter, Saranya, who is still in her early childhood as of June 2024, had made several appearances in mass media as well. Saranga was previously married to Umali Thilakarathna, a singer and an actress. Saranga won the awards for the most popular actor at the Sumathi Awards in 2011 and 2024, and at the Raigam Tele’es awards in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2024.

Smoking Scenes in the teledrama, Take Care

Take Care is a teledrama featuring Saranga in the lead role, while he is also the producer. There are multiple scenes that Saranga is shown to be smoking cigarettes. This teledrama was telecasted on the Independent Television Network (ITN), a state owned television channel in Sri Lanka. Two of the main actresses of this teledrama are Dinakshie Priyasad and Rebecca Dilrukshi.

Saranga shared clips of the Teledrama Take Care which depict one of the female lead, Dinakshie Priyasad, smoking cigarettes, on his personal Facebook page. He indicated that they were censored and edited before it was telecasted.
