    Samuel «Sammy» Lewis Nestico (født 6. februar1924 i Pittsburg i Pennsylvania i USA, død 17. januar 2021 i Carlsbad i California) var en komponist og arrangør av storbandmusikk. Nestico er mest kjent for hans arrangement for Count Basies orkester.

    Han tok en bachelorgrad i musikk ved Duquesne University i Pittsburgh i 1950. Siden det har han blitt utnevnt til æresdoktor i musikk ved Duquesne, han har også mottatt tallrike priser.

    Karriere

    Han har vært profesjonell musikkarrangør siden 1941, da han 17 år gammel ble arrangør for ABC sin radiostasjon WCAE i Pittsburgh. I løpet av karrieren har han arrangert musikk for Count Basies orkester (1967–1984), The US Air Force Band (15 år) og The US Marine Band (5 år), begge de sistnevnte var i Washington, DC. I tillegg spilte han trombone i storbandene til Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Gene Krupa og Charlie Barnet.

    Undervisning

    I 1998-1999 var Nestico professor ved University of Georgia, hvor han underviste kommersiell orkestrering og dirigerte The Studio Orchestra, men han ute av stand til å finne den nødvendige administrative støtten for å bli der. Han ledet også musikkprogram ved Pierce College i Los Angeles, Westinghouse Memorial High School i Wilmerding, Pennsylvania.

    I løpet av hans lange karriere i fjernsyns- og filmindustrien har han arrangert og dirigert prosjekter for artister som Bing Crosby, Sarah Vaughan, Toni Tennille, Frank Sinatra, Phil Collins, Barbra Streisand, Count Basie, og mange andre. Han har jobbet som arrangør i nesten 70 fjernsynsprogrammer, blant annet Mission: Impossible, Mannix, Charlie's Angels, og The Mod Squad.

    From the Series:

    The largest series in the collection, this includes sixteen sub-series based on subject and original order. The Big Band arrangements, Guitar, and Jazz sub-series are the largest in the series. The series includes many handwritten music sheets within the collection, original arrangements by Joe Negri, as well as music by artists that influenced Joe Negri or that he performed with. The sub-series of club date music were originally housed in binders. The binders were removed and replace by folder for preservation purposes, but the materials within them were kept in original order. The club date music includes song lists and music. The series also includes music charts, history volumes and other miscellaneous papers.

    Born in Pittsburgh, at a very young age Sammy Nestico became the staff arranger for the ABC radio station there. He later received his degree in music education from Duquesne University.
    Sammy youned the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington as staff arranger, and subsequently led the famous Airmen of Note. After 15 years with the air Force, he joined the U.S. Marine Band in Washington as chief arranger and directir of the White House orchestra during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.
    Between 1970 and 1980 Sammy wrote for the Count Basie Orchestra. He directed the recording of ten Basie albums of original music. Four of which won Grammy awards. He also worked for Capitol Records, cowriting the equivalent of 63 albums for that company.
    Through the years Sammy's writing credits have grown to include work for all major film and TV studios. He has also written commercials for Anheuser Busch, Zenith, Ford, Mattel, Dodge, Remington and more. His music has also been recorded by the Boston Pops and Andre Kostelanitz orchestras. Somewhere along the way he has miraculously managed time to publish several hundred numbers in the educational field ranging in difficulty from the elemenatary to universitly levels.
