Biography (Courtesy of Gord Smith website): Gord Smith was born in Montreal on October 8, He studied Architecture and Engineering at Sir George Williams University, and went on to work with the architectural firm of Lawson Betts and Cash in Montreal. In , he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA). He taught at the University of Victoria and McMaster University. Smith designed the entrance gate for Expo 67, Montreal, and his works are represented in numerous collections including the National Gallery of Canada and the Montreal Museum of Fine Art. Gordon Smith Guitars is a manufacturer of hand-crafted electric guitars. They are the UK's longest-established electric guitar manufacturer and have been called the English equivalent to Gibson on that basis.
History
The company was founded in and is named after its founders, Gordon Whitham and John Smith. In April Gordon Smith Guitars was acquired by British-based Auden Guitars and production moved from Partington near Manchester, England to Audens Guitars' workshop in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.
The company aims to produce quality guitars for working musicians and say that they make "guitars, not furniture".
Gordon Smith Guitars are among the highest-rated manufacturers for use of sustainable woods in guitar construction, according to the Ethical Consumer.
Range
The Gordon Smith range includes original designs, such as the Galaxy, as well as S-style, T-style and LP-style models. All models currently use a brass nut.
The company offers many options for customising guitars, including a choice of hardware and finishes, single- or double-cutaway and left- or right-handed guitars. Twelve-string and double-necked versions of the range are also available.
Gordon Smith produce their own pickups in-house.
Their humbucker pickups are coil-tapped as standard to give players access to a broader palette of sounds.

Gordon Hammond SmithRCA (October 8, – November 4, ) was a Canadian artist who sculpted geometric forms in metal and wood. He was considered one of Canada's leading sculptors of the postwar period and his work is marked by a great diversity of styles inspired by music, nature, and other themes. Trained in architecture and engineering, he produced work in metal that reflects a mastery of technique and conveys great flexibility.

Smith studied architecture at Sir George Williams University from to He went on to work with the architectural firm of Lawson Betts and Cash in Montreal from to He had originally learned to weld with a torch his older brother used to rebuild old cars. Smith received his first commission from the Fraser-Hickson Library in Montreal at the age of The copper sculpture was erected in at the north entrance to the library.
Smith, alongside his postwar contemporaries Yves Trudeau, Armand Vaillancourt, and Gerald Gladstone, was testing the possibilities of welded-steel construction in the s.
In , Smith was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. That same year, he was commissioned to create Canada Screen for the Canadian pavilion at Expo The screen was made of cor-ten steel, measured ' x 12' and weighed approximately 13 tons.
