    Anouar Brahem was born on October 20th 1957 in Halfaouine, in the Medina of Tunis. Encouraged by his father, an engraver and printer but also a great music-lover, Brahem began his studies of music and the oud at the age of ten, when he attended the Tunis National Conservatory of Music; his principal teacher was the great oud master, Ali Sriti. An exceptional student by the age of fifteen, Brahem was playing regularly with local orchestras; at the age of eighteen, he decided to devote himself entirely to music. He went back to Ali Sriti who followed the traditional master/disciple relationship by receiving Anouar at his home every day for four consecutive years, transmitting to him the subtleties of the maquamat (the complicated modal system of Arab classical music) and the taqsim.

    Little by little, and in spite of the fact that his education was encouraging him to serve the tradition of Arab classical music by bringing him to such a high standard of excellence, Anouar began to broaden his field of listening to include other kinds of musical expression from around the Mediterranean Basin, even extending his curiosity further so as to include Iran and India and their music, then jazz. "I enjoyed the change of environment," he says, "and I discovered the close links that exist between all these kinds of music."

    So Anouar Brahem increasingly distinguished himself from a musical environment almost exclusively devoted to vocal music and largely dominated by light music. He wanted more than to perform at weddings or join one of the many existing ensembles; he considered them anachronistic, and the oud was usually no more than an accompanying instrument for singers. Brahem was convinced that his instrument, a favourite of Arab music, should be given pride of place, and he began giving instrumental concerts and recitals to Tunisian audiences, often playing the oud solo.     Abdul Wahab Mahmoud was an Iraqi politician born in Basra in 1909 and died on January 14, 1972. He was left-leaning and had Marxist tendencies.

    Education

    He was educated in Basra and Baghdad, and graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1932.

    Career

    Abdul Wahab Mahmoud was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the eighth round of elections from December 23, 1937 - 22 February 1939. On 20 December 1938, he was arrested and placed under house arrest in the district of Tal Afar in the Mosul district for two years on charges fomenting clans in Diwaniya. He was released after Jameel Al-Madfaai was removed.

    He was also a member of the House of Representatives in the ninth session (12 June 1939 - 9 June 1943) and a member of the House of Representatives for the tenth electoral cycle (9 October 1943-21 May 1946).

    He was Minister of Finance in the Second Ministry of Tawfiq al-Suwaidi in 1946. He was also a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, a bar president, and an ambassador to Iraq in Moscow.

    He was a member of the Liberal Party led by Tawfiq al-Suwaidi, founded in 1946, where Saad Saleh Jario was vice-president. His membership continued from 1946 until 1948 when the party ended its activities.

    In 1950, Abdelwahab Mahmoud signed the Stockholm Appeal for Peace.

    He was elected President of the Bar and he was the tenth among the sequence of the Bar presidents during the 1950-1951 session and was re-elected for the 1951-1952 session and for another third session 1952-1953. During his tenure, the Bar Association flourished, lawyers' rooms expanded and lawyers have become similar rooms in the courthouse in some Iraqi cities. In 1958, he was again elected President of the Bar.

    Abdelkader Ouali is an Algerian politician who served as the wali of several Algerian provinces and as Minister of Water Resources and the Environment between 2016 and 2017 and Minister of Public Works between 2015 and 2016. He was sentenced to three years in prison in 2022 for building roads for businessman Ali Haddad.

    Biography

    Ouali was born on April 3, 1952, in Mostaganem, Mostaganem Province, Algeria. Between 1991 and 1994, Ouali served as the wali of Tlemcen Province, after having served in several managerial positions and head of the dairas of El Hassasna and Koléa District. He then served as wali of Algiers Province between 1994 and 1995, Sétif Province between 1995 and 1999, Tizi Ouzou Province between 1999 and 2001, and Batna Province between 2001 and 2005.

    Ouali served as the Minister of Public Works of Algeria between May 14, 2015, and June 11, 2016. From 2016 to 2017, he served a Minister of Water Resources and the Environment before running for the People's National Assembly in Mostaganem and winning. Ouali's name appeared in a corruption case involving jailed Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and prominent businessman Ali Haddad in October 2020, and Ouali was arrested and placed in pre-trial detention in November 2020. Ouali denied responsibility. He was sentenced to three years in prison for corruption in March 2022.
