Kaniehtiio Horn (born 1985 or 1986), also known as Tiio Horn, is a Kanien'kehá:ka actress, best known for her roles in the television series Hemlock Grove and Defiance. In the Assassin's Creed series, she voiced and provided facial capture for Kaniehtí:io in Assassin's Creed III.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Kaniehtiio was born in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Montreal, Canada to a Scottish-German father, and a Mohawk mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn. She is a native of Kahnawake, a Mohawk reserve outside of Montreal. Growing up with six older sisters, she split her time between the reserve and Ottawa, where her father lived.

Horn chose acting as her career at a young age, but concentrated on swimming and water polo as a teenager. She cited Jim Carrey as her inspiration to go into acting, realizing when watching Ace Ventura that actors like him can be paid to make people laugh. She graduated from Dawson College in 2005 for theater arts, and appeared in a number of short films.

Career[]

Kaniehtiio's first acting credit was in 2006, for the CBC television mini-series Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis. Horn was present at the 1990 Oka Crisis at the age of four with her mother and 14-year-old sister. Subsequently, she landed a role in the 2007 drama film The Colony. In 2008, she appeared in the TV film Moccasin Flats: Redemption, for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award, and in Journey to the Center of the Earth.

In 2009, Horn starred in The Trotsky, playing a Montreal high school student. She appeared in The Wild Hunt, and in Reginald Harkema's Leslie, My Name Is Evil, as a member of Charles Manson's death cult. The three Canadian films were selected for the prestigious Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. The Trotsky and The Wild Hunt made the Top 10 Canadian films list at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

Horn starred in the CBC television sitcom 18 to Life as Monica Bellow, and al

Alright.

How to explain Kaniehtiio Horn’s entrance in her newest series What Would Sal Do?

Here goes.

Sal (Dylan Taylor) is informed by his mother (Jennifer Dale) that he is the result of an immaculate conception, and may be the second coming of Jesus Christ, or something like that. The mission for Sal, a grown man living in his mother’s basement, is to do good deeds.

Soooooooooo, after being told by a homeless man that buying him a burger at a fast food joint is not really that nice, Sal decides to take said man to a er, um, a massage parlour of sorts.

The homeless man takes a look at the collection of girls, and points to Nicole because “she looks mean.”

The eyes are unmistakably those of the Kahnawake actress, who, ummmmm, (massages?) a sensitive area on a homeless man, to his delight.

Phew. Got through it.

“Imagine showing your mother that show,” said Hornwith a huge laugh, whose mother Kahentinetha Horn did check it out. “My mom was howling, and just thought it was the funniest thing ever.”

The scene is pretty funny and is typical of the offbeat comedy series that launched March 24 on CraveTV.

It’s worth checking out the show and signing up for the free month of Crave at least. It’s like Netflix, only it has HBO shows (you have been warned TV addicts).

What Would Sal Do? is an offbeat, sardonic, funny show that Kahnawake viewers will have no trouble relating to. Well, unless you don’t know a 30-something guy who lives with his mother, doesn’t have a real job and needs motivation to do something with his life.

Essential in making a show of its ilk is finding actors with real comedic chemistry. It’s something Horn and Taylor have in spades.

Biography[]

Horn grew up on the Kahnawake reserve in Quebec; her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, is a former model and a Kahnawake activist. Tiio graduated from Dawson College in 2005 with a theatre arts degree. She began acting as a student, and was cast as Susan Oke in the TV miniseries *Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis*, a film about the 1990 standoff between Mohawk protesters and Québec police. During this crisis, when Horn was 4 years old, her older sister Waneek was stabbed by a soldier while carrying her; Waneek survived, and went on to play water polo for Canada at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games. Waneek also appeared in an episode of the Letterkenny spinoff series Shoresy (of which Tiio is a creative producer/consultant) playing a board member of the Senior AAA Hockey League, Danis.

In November 2020, Tiio and her partner, Bradley LaRocque, welcomed a son.

She played Angel in the 2008 TV movie Moccasin Flats: Redemption, for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award, and has been a regular on numerous television shows since, including three appearances on 19-2, where many other Letterkenny cast members have appeared.

She is well-known for portraying Gina in Season 3 of the Amazon series The Man in the High Castle, winning an ACTRA award in 2019. Outside of film and television, she is probably best known as the voice of Kaniehtí:io in the 2012 video game Assassin's Creed III.
